Description

904L stainless steel tube is an unstable low carbon (0.02% maximum) high alloy austenitic stainless steel, no carbon deposition in the tube general heat treatment and welding situation. The risk of crystal corrosion after heat treatment and welding is eliminated. The addition of copper to this grade greatly improves the resistance to strong reducing acids, especially sulfuric, phosphoric, organic, and inorganic acids. It also has strong resistance to chloride attacks, including pitting/crevice corrosion and stress corrosion cracking.

904L stainless steel pipe properties and characteristics

ASME SA213 904L N08904 stainless steel pipes are designed for harsh environments with corrosive conditions. Due to the high content of chromium, nickel, molybdenum and copper, 904L has excellent corrosion resistance. As uniform corrosion, especially in dilute sulfuric acid.

The 904L pipe is non-magnetic under all conditions and has excellent weldability and formability. The austenitic structure also gives this grade excellent toughness, even down to low temperatures. Many applications where this grade previously performed well can now be achieved at a much lower cost with duplex stainless steel 2205 (S31803 or S32205), so its use is less common than in the past.
