What are the advantages and disadvantages of carbon steel

Advantages:

1. carbon steel can obtain higher hardness and better wear resistance after heat treatment.

2. the hardness of carbon steel in the annealing state is very moderate, and has good machinability.

3. carbon steel raw materials are very common, easy to obtain, production cost is relatively low.

Deficiency:

1. the thermal hardness of carbon steel will be poor, because when the tool working temperature is greater than 200 degrees, its hardness and wear resistance will drop sharply.

2. Carbon steel has very low hardenability. Fully hardened steel is generally about 15-18 mm in diameter when quenched, while carbon steel is only about 6 mm in diameter or thickness when not quenched, so it will be more prone to deformation and cracking.
