What is carbon steel?

Carbon steel according to the carbon content can be divided into ordinary carbon steel and high-quality carbon steel two types.

The application range of ordinary carbon steel on the car body is very small, and it is limited to the production of low-bearing bracket components.

According to its carbon content can be divided into low carbon steel, medium carbon steel, high carbon steel.

① Low carbon steel. Its carbon content is 0.0218%~0.25%, this kind of steel has low strength, good plasticity, good weldability, and is widely used in the body panel. Steel with a low carbon content is soft and easy to work with, making it safe to perform tasks such as welding.

② Medium carbon steel. Its carbon content is 0.25%~0.60%, this kind of steel strength and toughness is good, heat treatment has a greater impact, often used in shaft and gear parts.

③ High carbon steel. Its carbon content is 0.60%~2.11%. It is often used in cutting tools and abrasive tools, and the hardness is high after quenching, but the brittleness is great.

Varieties of carbon steel

The main round steel, flat steel, square steel and so on. After cold and hot processing steel, carbon steel can be divided into low carbon steel, medium carbon steel and high carbon steel according to chemical composition (that is, carbon content), carbon content is less than 2.11%, in addition to iron, carbon and limited amounts of silicon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur and other impurities, do not contain other alloying elements of iron carbon alloy called carbon steel, carbon steel performance mainly depends on the carbon content. With the increase of carbon content, the strength and hardness of steel increase, and the plasticity, toughness and weldability decrease. Commonly used grades 20#, 25#, Q235, 45# and low alloy structural steel. According to the use, it can be divided into carbon structural steel and carbon tool steel. Carbon tool steel carbon content between 0.65 ~ 1.35%, after heat treatment can be obtained high hardness and high wear resistance, mainly used in the manufacture of various tools, cutting tools, molds and measuring tools, carbon structural steel is divided into ordinary carbon structural steel and high-quality carbon structural steel two categories. Many uses, the amount is large, mainly used in railway, bridge, all kinds of construction projects, the manufacture of various metal components under static load and not important mechanical parts and general welding parts that do not need heat treatment.

Carbon steel is easy to rust, as for a lot of rust, or a little rust depends on the dry humidity of the environment where the carbon steel is stored, if the storage environment is dry, the rust will be relatively light, if the storage environment humidity is relatively large, the rust will be more severe. However, if the carbon steel is coated with anti-rust oil, the carbon steel is not easy to rust.
