What is cast steel?

Cast steel is a type of steel specifically used to make steel castings. When the strength requirements of castings are high, and the use of cast iron cannot meet these requirements, cast steel should be chosen. However, the fluidity of molten steel is not as good as cast iron, so the thickness of the casting structure cannot be too small, and the shape should not be too complex. If the silicon content is controlled at the upper limit, the fluidity of molten steel can be improved. According to the different varieties and uses, cast steel can be divided into general engineering cast steel, welding structure cast steel, stainless steel cast steel and heat-resistant steel cast steel.

According to the different chemical composition, cast steel can be divided into cast carbon steel and cast alloy steel. Cast carbon steel is a cast steel with carbon as the main alloying element and a small amount of other elements. Cast carbon steel can be further divided into cast low carbon steel, cast medium carbon steel and cast high carbon steel. The carbon content of cast low carbon steel is less than 0.25%, the carbon content of cast carbon steel is between 0.25% and 0.60%, and the carbon content of cast high carbon steel is between 0.6% and 3.0%. With the increase of carbon content, the strength and hardness of cast carbon steel will also increase.

Cast carbon steel has the following advantages: first, the production cost is low; Secondly, the intensity is higher; Thirdly, the toughness is good; Finally, the plasticity is strong. Therefore, cast carbon steel can be used to manufacture parts that bear large loads, such as rolling mill frames in heavy machinery, hydraulic press bases, etc. In addition, it can also be used to make high-stress and impact-resistant parts, such as wheels, couplings, bolsters and side frames on railway vehicles.

Cast alloy steel can be divided into cast low alloy steel (the total amount of alloying elements is less than or equal to 5%), cast alloy steel (the total amount of alloying elements is 5%~10%) and cast high alloy steel (the total amount of alloying elements is greater than or equal to 10%).

According to the different characteristics of use, cast steel can be divided into casting tool steel, casting special steel, engineering and structural cast steel and casting alloy steel. Among them, casting tool steel can be divided into casting tool steel and casting die steel. Casting special steel can be divided into casting stainless steel, casting heat-resistant steel, casting wear-resistant steel and casting nickel-based alloy. Cast steel for engineering and structure can be divided into cast carbon structural steel and cast alloy structural steel. Finally, cast alloy steel can be divided into cast low alloy steel, cast medium alloy steel and cast high alloy steel.
